The Christmas Tag

2014-12-12 20.51.03

The first rule of blogging is be consistent. Sigh. Rules are made to be broken right?! It is so nice to see that you guys are still stopping by to see if there is anything new up over the last twelve days, so SURPRISE – there finally is! Yesterday morning I woke up to my car covered sprinkled in snow. I have never enjoyed the drive to work more. The naked gnarled trees were iced in white. The fields on either side were blanketed in snow and frost. I have decided that should I ever go colourblind, I would be happy to see the world in only white, blue and silver! My drive to work was accompanied by Christmas FM on full blast and I laughed as I sang along to ‘it’s begining to look lot like Christmas’. For the first time this year, my heart felt truly festive. Of course, by the time 6pm came around and I was heading home, there was nothing left of my white wintery morning. That’s Ireland for you!

Keeping with my high spirits, I thought I’d attempt the Christmas Tag today. Or a mixture of two Christmas tags I’ve found because I’m feeling productive and the questions were pretty much the same. One from Into The Bookcase (what a great name for a blog!!), and one from my new favourite person and fellow Gemini in crime, Tay’s Bucket List!

Do you like to stay in your PJ’s, or dress up for Christmas?
I love both. One of my favourite Christmases was back in 2011 when we all stayed in our pyjamas and ate our Christmas dinner in the sitting room around the coffee table. I tend to only dress up for Christmas if I’m spending Christmas Day at someone else’s house, or if we are having other people over. On the other side of the spectrum, Christmas Day 1997 I was in Lanzarote and wore a swim-suit and ate cheese toasties by the pool for Christmas dinner! This year I’m planning on jeans and a Christmas jumper.

If you could only buy one person a present this year who would it be?
Probably my mum. She’s been so good to me especially over the last couple of years, and I will eventually be able to shower her with gifts to show my gratitude.

Do you open your presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
Christmas morning/afternoon. Santa presents are opened in the morning, and all other gifts are opened after Christmas dinner at about 5/6pm.

Have you ever built a Gingerbread house?
Never, but I would love to. I think you can buy a Gingerbread house set in Dunnes Stores…. *note to self – go buy one before they are all sold out!*

What do you like to do on your Christmas break?
I’ve never really had a proper Christmas break before. Working in the hospitality industry tends to make you unavailable for most fun activities. I’m generally off Christmas day and that’s it. Last year I had a week off between coming home from the Netherlands and having to start back at work on the 28th. It was magical. This year I have about a week off and I’m not too sure what to do with it. I am spending half the time with my Mum and the other half with my dad so I’m excited to spend quality time with both of them.

Favorite Christmas meal or treat?
Cranberry sauce & mashed potatoes – the only time of the year I choose to eat potatoes. And chocolate. All the chocolate!!

What’s your favorite holiday movie?

I believe!

Candy Canes or Gingerbread Men?
Gingerbread Men. The taste and smell of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg makes me all warm and fuzzy instead. Candy canes are pretty but far too sugary for my tastebuds to handle.

Have you ever made a Snowman?
Do you wanna build a snoooowman? Sorry, I couldn’t help it, it was a natural reflex! Yes I have made a snowman, but it’s been a while. When I was a kid we rarely got enough snow to be able to build a snowman. The last time I saw snow was February 2013 when I was living in Paris. I initiated a snowball fight inside out apartment building, but never made a snowman 😦

Which do you like better, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Christmas Eve by far. I prefer the build up to Christmas rather than Christmas itself. There is always too much pressure on everything to go perfect. I adore that feeling of anticipation on the night before Christmas. I love the giggles and the excitement. I’m no Grinch but Christmas day is usually an anticlimax to be honest.

White lights, or colored lights?
White lights. The warm kind.

Have to loudly sing the chorus of Jingle Bells every time you walk into a room for a week or have to wear a Santa suit to school every day for a week.
Loudly sing Jingle Bells every time I walked into a room for a week. Hands down. I LOVE CHRISTMAS SONGS! Plus, a Santa suit just wouldn’t suit me (even though red is my colour!), and I am no longer in school. I am constantly singing Christmas carols anyway, so I doubt anyone could tell that there was anything wrong with me.

Not celebrate Christmas this year or not celebrate your birthday this year
I don’t celebrate my birthday and am really not bothered about celebrating it any year. I would be distraught if I could not celebrate Christmas however! Christmas makes me happy. Birthdays are just any other day of the year for me.

Have Frosty the Snowman for a friend or Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer for a friend
Frosty the Snowman! He seems like great craic (Irish slang for fun or ‘a laugh’. Pronounced: crack!), and I’m pretty sure that he’s cousins with Olaf, and then we could all hang out together and dream of what it’s going to be like in suuuuummer!

Have mistletoe hanging in your bedroom doorway or have a large decorated Christmas tree in your bedroom doorway
Mistletoe. I love kisses, me 😉

Write a five paragraph essay about the meaning of Christmas or solve a page of Christmas-themed math problems
I would probably try to solve a page of Christmas themed math problems, because being forced to write on a topic that wasn’t inspired by myself just seems like a lot of unnecessary work. Math on the other hand can be fun to solve (if it works out right – if it doesn’t, it is down right head wrecking!!)

Have a job wrapping presents at the mall or have a job taking pictures of children sitting on Santa’s lap at the mall
Taking pictures of children. Wrapping presents for other people would just depress me! Plus I adore kids, and kids love me!

See the Nut Cracker or dance in the Nut Cracker
I’ve done both, but I’d prefer to see the Nut Cracker. It is my all time favourite ballet!! ❤ I’m actually listening it as I type

Be given €100 for Christmas to buy things for yourself or be given €1000 before Christmas to use to buy gifts for other people
€1000 to buy gifts for other people. Can you imagine how many people you could make happy with that kind of money?

Have a nose that glows red like Rudolf’s or have pointy ears like an elf
I’d like the pointy ears. My nose is big enough, I don’t need anymore attention drawn to it!

If you do this tag, don’t forget to leave your link down below. I’d love to read your answers!

12 more sleeps!
