Day 20 – Questions & Answers

I must admit that I thought today was Friday up until about 4pm. When I finally got over the shock that it was actually Thursday, I realised I had nothing planned for Day 20 of NaBloPoMo. So today’s post is going to be me graciously accepting a couple of awards I’ve been nominated for recently amongst the blogging community by answering some questions. So if you want to learn a little more about the girl behind the blog, keep reading!

The lovely Hollie over at Hollie’s Lifestyle, Fashion and Fantasy Football Blog nominated me for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award. Thanks Hollie 🙂 As the name suggests, her blog is an eclectic mix of all things girly, with a dash of fantasy football, and I love it 🙂 Below are the questions Hollie asked, and of course, my answers

1. What is your favourite blog and who is your favourite blogger?
I’m not sure I have a number one favourite blog or blogger. I’m one of these people who has such a wide variety of interests that I read blogs on topics from beauty to travel to business to food! But if I had to choose…Hmmmm.. Ok let’s compromise. My favourite blogger I have discovered most recently is What Sass Says. Her photos are absolutely beautiful, and I find myself looking for her newest post in my feed daily. I’m also secretly taking tips from her, even though she doesn’t know it 😉

2. How do you promote your blog and what is the most effective way to do so?
I don’t spend a lot of time actively promoting my blog. Having said that, I find Twitter is a great way to share posts and to connect with other bloggers and people who share similar interests to your content. I’ve discovered many of my favourite blogs on Twitter! Another great way to get your blog out there is to visit other blogs and leave comments on posts you like!

3. If you could be somebody else for a day, who would it be and why?
I thought about this question for ages, and my answer is this. I would love to be Simon Cowell for a day, but not current Simon Cowell; I’d like to be Simon Cowell in his late 20s. I think the man is a business genius and I’d love to see how he navigated his way through the obstacles of early adulthood!

4. What inspired you to come up with the name of your blog?
I wanted something personal, something that would reflect who I am. And what’s more personal and reflective of myself than, well, myself. It’s my name 🙂

5. What is your favourite perfume, lipstick and nail polish?
My fav perfume, and only one I have worn for the last 6 years, is Dior’s J’adore. I really need to find a new scent, but I’m scared…

6. High heels,if you wear heels, what is your preferred heel height?
I love heels. If I am going out at night, I go for around 5inches, or if it’s during the day 2inches will do! I have a penchant for heeled ankle boots since last winter!

7. What is your favourite music at the moment?
Honestly… Christmas music (don’t hurt me…)

8. What is your favourite tv shows?
This may take a while. In no particular order, I love….
Nashville. Pretty Little Liars. Downton Abbey. Melissa & Joey. Reign. 2 Broke Girls. New Girl. The Big Bang Theory. Mistresses. The Vampire Diaries. I love them all.

9. Which is more important to you, your Twitter account or your Blog?
There is no contest. My blog is incrementally more important as it holds a lot of my memories and thoughts from the past two years.

10. Who would you most like to meet if givin the chance and why?
Again, Simon Cowell. I would just love to pick his brain for a couple of hours. It’s funny because I never thought of meeting him before tonight. I’m beginning to think that the XFactor is not a singing competition at all, but a self-marketing ploy – well done Mr Cowell, it is working!

Next Lexie from Steps to Follow nominated me for a Liebster Award. I cannot get enough of Lexie’s travel blog. She has been to so many beautiful places, and I especially love her European adventures. Her posts transport me to cities I have never been to from the comfort of my bedroom, and make me want to throw some extra cash into my travel piggy bank!!! Thank you so much for the nomination Lexie 🙂

1. Where has been your favourite place that you have traveled thus far? Why?
This is a very tough question. The most obvious answer would be The Netherlands, but I feel like that is my second home so it doesn’t count. I adore Barcelona. I’ve visited the city twice, and I feel like I could definitely return! A city needs three things to keep me interested – good architecture, great art and superb cuisine – and Barcelona ticked all three boxes!

2. Where is your dream destination?
I’ve wanted to visit the pyramids in Egypt every since I was a little girl.

3. What is your favourite pastime/ hobby?
Reading and writing, while sipping a steaming cup of black coffee

4. When did you come to realization that you enjoy travelling?
I’ve always known I’ve liked visiting new countries and cities, as I was very fortunate as a child to travel abroad with my family regularly. However, it was only within the last few months that I realised I enjoy, and am 100% comfortable with, solo-travelling.

5. What is your favourite snack and drink?
Watermelon and water. Or if I’m feeling particularly crazy, carbonated water! Yep, I’m wild!

6. Are there any places you will never travel? Where and why?
Great question! I will never say never, however there are a couple of countries that I would not travel to at this moment in time due to certain dangers being publicised by the media. As much as I’d love to see the whole world, putting my life at risk seems a little counter-productive!

7. What got you started with blogging? What is your favourite part of it?
I started blogging to document my semester abroad in Paris, France, and then my semester abroad in Utrecht, the Netherlands. With the encouragement of friends, family and the internet, I continued and here we are. There is so much I love about blogging. I love having physical memories I can look back on. I love how I have made so many new friends through this platform. I love discovering other blogs This month in particular I have found great pleasure in being able to re-live what I was doing this day last year, as I blogged every day of November 2013 also.

8. Who do you look up to? If you care to share, why?
I look up to people who are courageous, who persevere and overcome obstacles through sheer determination and hard work. I admire those who have discovered their passion in life, fight for what they believe in and share their knowledge with the world. I wish I cared that much about something but I haven’t found my inner passion just yet.

9. What kind of qualities do your closest friends have?
Each of them have very different qualities, that’s what makes them all unique. But one that they all share is they all value honesty and loyalty.

10. If your biggest wish came true, what would it be?
It would be to discover what my true passion in life is, as it may be able to guide me in the right direction in this crazy journey I call my life!

11. What is your favourite book/s? Why?
I love classics because they transport me to simpler times. That and I feel like I was born in the wrong century! One of my favourite books is Great Expectations by Charles Dickens; not only because it’s a great novel, but because of the story behind the first time I read it. I was about 9 years old and I saw it in the library. The cover looked pretty, and I had read David Copperfield and A Tale of Two Cities so I knew that Charles Dickens was somewhat of a big deal. When I went to check it out, the librarian refused to let me take it until I could prove to her that I was able to read it and she made me read the first page aloud in the middle of the library! While I understand now that an adult may be taken aback at a young child reading Dickens, from memory it felt as if she was mocking me; accusing me of trying to read something beyond my ability and trying to publicly shame me as she believe I would fail. And I proved her wrong!! It’s the little victories in life 🙂

I hope you enjoyed reading this Q&A post! Don’t forget to check out Hollie’s Lifestyle, Fashion and Fantasy Football Blog and Lexie’s blog Steps to Follow!

See you tomorrow for Day 21!
