Everything You ALWAYS Wanted To Know About Me!

I’ve been recently nominated for a couple more Liebster Awards. First by the lovely Courtney who is blogging her experiences as an au pair in Paris. Her blog brings me right back to my time living there – those were the days!). Secondly by Eimear, a fellow Irish cailín and my unofficial little blogging sister! She has just started university in Galway and her blog is a wonderful reflection of her day to day musings. I have already been nominated several times, and technically cannot accept this anymore as I have more followers than is required *does awkward uncoordinated victory dance*. HOWEVER, I still feel like answering the questions that the girls have posed. So if you’d like to find out a few random things about me than please do read on.

If you were immortal for a day, what would you do?
There are so many possibilities, but what I would probably do is climb a couple of trees and run along the edges of the Cliffs of Moher – and paraglide off them! I’d also love to go swimming with Great White Sharks in the Great Barrier Reef. Basically I’d do things that I could do now if I was courageous enough, but I’m afraid of the whole losing my life aspect..

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose and why?
There are SO many fictional characters I would love to be, so bare with me as I gather my thoughts.

Darrell Rivers from Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers– who wouldn’t want to go to boarding school in Cornwall in the 1940s. Decadent midnight feasts, hilarious French lessons with Mam’zelle, the hilarious pranks that Belinda played. I just wanted to be a part of it all. See also The Twins at St Clare’s!

Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice. Intelligent, complex and poised, she knows her mind and is not afraid to speak it. I will one day find my Mr Darcy!

Sara Crewe from A Little Princess – I used to think (and still kinda do!) that this was actually me! She loved stories. I loved stories. She had a doll called Emily. I had a doll called Emily. She had a great imagination. I had a great imagination. Do we see a pattern emerging here?

Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. From the get go this girl wasn’t afraid to declare her love of reading and learning. In the end, she turned out to be quite the bad ass! Plus there was that whole being able to do magic thing even though she was only a muggle..!

What would you name the autobiography of your life?
This is a tough one. It might be a little long, but I love the quote “I try all things, I achieve what I can” from Moby Dick (Herman Melville). I think it sums up my life to date!

At what age did you become an adult?
I am 26 and still don’t feel like an adult. I moved out at 18, but I have never stopped needing my parents. I’m fairly sure that I will never truly feel like an ‘adult’. Does anyone?

If you were stranded on a deserted island with one person, who would you want that person to be?
My mum 🙂 I’m not too sure she’d feel the same way though haha

Do you save mementos from events? What’s your favorite?
Always. I am one of the most sentimental people I know. I still have my pass to my first time at Disneyland Paris when I was 9!

Have you ever cut your own hair?

If you had to sing at karaoke night, what song would you choose?
Old school Madonna. Like A Virgin or Open Your Heart.

What was the last movie you went to? Would you recommend it?
I think the last movie I saw in the cinema was The Other Woman. It was one of those movies that everyone was laughing out loud at. The newest movie I’ve seen was The Fault In Our Stars, and the day after I read the book. I was bawling

Have you ever had a nickname? What was it?
Too many. Charlie. Spillers. Charlibob. Simon. Amongst others.

What sound do you love?
The sound of the wind rushing past me as I cycle around Amsterdam 🙂

What’s your favourite thing about Ireland? 😉
The fact that it will always be home, and how everyone seems to love the Irish. We’re great craic in all fairness!!

On a scale of one to twelve, how much do you love glitter?
11.5 – Minus 0.5 for the occasions when I’ve had to clean up glitter. Not fun!

Who made your last smile happen?
The guy beside me in Starbucks asking if I wanted anything when he went to get his fifth cappuccino. He hadn’t uttered one word to him up until this point! Us foreigners gotta stick together 🙂

What is an experience you’d love to live again, and recommend for anyone to do?
Studying abroad in a foreign country where you cannot speak the language! Or simply live in a country where you do not have a grasp of the language yet. I cannot recommend it enough. You will learn SO much, and if you’re lucky, you’ll fall in love with the culture, and

Weirdest thing you’ve ever bought?
A skipping rope, a bubble-gun and cardboard masquerade masks. At 11pm at night. On the eve of my 26th birthday. For no apparent reason.

Favourite childhood movie?
Disney Movie: The Little Mermaid.
Other: A Little Princess

A weird tradition you/your country has?
Does Ireland have any weird traditions? I can’t think of any right now. Actually yes, HALLOWEEN!! Did you know that Halloween actually originated in Ireland to mark the end of the harvest season and start of Winter. It was a pagan festival known as Samhain. Fun fact: Samhain is also the Irish word for November! Usually for Halloween we have Barmbrack which is like a sweet bread. The person baking it usually threw in a coin or something to signify good luck. Whoever gets the slice with the coin will have good luck for the rest of the year. The Barmbrack you buy in the shops nowadays usually has a little ring in it 🙂 I haven’t had Barmbrack for years actually…. definitely going to make it this year for the craic.

Would you kiss your first crush today?
I can’t even remember who my first crush was…. that’s probably a no!

Your ‘go-to’ meal when you’re making/cooking dinner?
Lately it has been pasta with cherry tomatoes and fresh basel.

What’s your goal in life?
To be happy.

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging to document my experiences while studying for three months in Paris (France), and then again while in Utrecht (The Netherlands). Primarily because it was an easier way to keep my friends and family updated to what I was up to. It sort of developed into a little corner where people could come for a healthy dose of happiness and positivity. When I originally blogged for other people, now I’m blogging for myself. I like knowing that in years to come, I can look back and see what I was doing and what made me happy way back when 🙂

Thanks again Courtney and Eimear for nominating me for the Liebster Award! Hope you enjoyed reading my answers to your questions.

  1. Great answers! I love The Little Princess too, but I would forego the tragedy of Sarah Crewe’s life if I were able to pick Hermione Granger because… MAGIC! 🙂
