Here’s something I’ve never done before – my monthly favourites! Or simply things that have made me happy this month. I thought that reflecting on all the small, and not so small, things that made my heart smile would be a nice way to round up each month. The thing is, I only thought of this concept last night so here I am, racking my brain, trying to remember all the wonderful things that have happened. It has been quite a month, full of melancholy, emotion and sentiments, a lot of which I can’t even begin to put into words. But without further ado, here are a few things that made me smile from the inside out during the month of August.
Finding my name on a Coke bottle! Or more specifically, being gifted a Coke Zero bottle with my name on it. It doesn’t matter that I don’t drink any carbonated drink other than sparkling water. I can never find my name on anything. My personalised Coke is now proudly displayed on a shelf in my bedroom. It really is the little things in life!
Doing Things for a Good Cause. Whether you love it or you hate it, you have to admit that the Ice Bucket Challenge has done wonders for creating awareness and fundraising for ALS, or Motor Neuron Disease if you live on my side of the Atlantic 🙂 In Ireland alone, we have raised over €1,000,000 for the IMNDA, which is pretty incredible. My little brothers helped me with my Ice Bucket Challenge – or should I say ice buckets as I had three of them poured over me!!! I got absolutely soaked but it was a bit of fun and all in the name of a very worthwhile cause! I even got to pour a bucket over my mum the very same day 🙂
Time Travelling. *Sigh* Not really, but it certainly felt like I had traveled back in time when I spent a day at Killruddery House in Wicklow at the beginning of August. Built in 1651, the house is surprisingly still a family home. It has been passed down the generations and three generations of the family currently live under its roof. I took a guided tour of the small section of the house that is open to the public, and I felt like I had stepped right into Downton Abbey! I also took a stroll around the grounds and thought this is what Mary must have felt like when she discovered the Secret Garden!! I also got to meet the owner of Killruddery House, Lord Ardee, who was probably only in his 30s – madness! I was seriously born in the wrong era! If you’re ever in the Bray area of Wicklow, visit Killruddery. You won’t be disappointed.
Lush’s Grease Lightning! Everyone is talking about Dream Dots at the moment, but reading the reviews is appears that no one can agree on whether they actually work or not. I haven’t tried them myself because the lack of ingredients on the packaging scares me, but I picked up this little bottle of magic at the start of the month and have used it ever since. With main ingredients of Thyme, Rosemary, Tea Tree Oil, & Aloe Vera, I have no qualms putting this on my skin. Don’t expect miraculous results, but the good thing is that you can use this as frequently as you like on your blemishes as it’s all natural baby! Plus is smells amazing.
Making Music. I’m fortunate to have access to a lovely soundproofed music room whenever I visit my family home. As I am currently living at home before moving to the Netherlands, it means I have ample opportunity to make use of it. There was one night in particular where I spent four hours out there singing, composing, writing and just generally feeling nourished and creative. I hadn’t sang properly in a very long time, and singing is the one time when I feel free and whole (yes, I am fully aware that I sound like an X-Factor contestant!!). I was soon interrupted by the whole family who wanted-in on some music action, so I gave my stepdad the stage for his rendition of Nessum Dorma on the electric guitar. It was a beautiful evening. The phrase ‘where words fail, music speaks‘ springs to mind.
Benefit’s Gimme Brow. Another beauty item that made giggle with glee this month. I cannot describe my love for this product. It shapes your brows and makes them look more voluminous in SECONDS! LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤ If you have sparse eyebrows like myself, give this a go. I am officially obsessed. I have mine in the shade light.
Quality Time with my Mum. It’s a rare treat that I get to spend some one-on-one time with my Mum with our clashing busy schedules and my a̶n̶n̶o̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ wonderful little brothers! We decided to take make the most of a random Tuesday night, and escaped to a beautiful 5 star hotel in Killarney. The very first thing that we did after checking in was check out how well the barman could make our favourite cocktails – mojitos! Ooohhh the minty goodness. Shortly after we were surprised with some delicious afternoon tea pastries, which went down a treat. A great start to our luxurious get-away.
Feeling Appreciated. I have never felt more loved and appreciated than I have in the last two weeks. I recently left my job to embark on a new adventure. The kind words that people have spoken, text, and written in cards & letters have really touched me. I am a sentimental fool, so when I was presented with this frame that was made by one of my colleagues (all my team signed the back of it!), AND a new charm for my Links of London bracelet that my team bought for me, I was filled with mixed emotions. My new charm is a globe (to signify my travels and how the world is now my oyster!) and I absolutely adore it!
So they’re the main things that made me happy this month. I can’t wait to see what September brings!
