My initial plan for this evening was to post about my first four Happy Days. However, after my Dutch class this evening, I discovered that I was nominated for a Liebster Award by my lovely Canadian friend Julia. The idea behind this award is to recognise other bloggers and introduce your readers to a few of your favourite that you think deserve a bit more love and acknowledgement. This is my first Liebster Award so needless to say, I’m delighted that someone thought of me 🙂 I forget a lot of the time that people other than my family and friends read this! There’s a real sense of community in the blogosphere, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be a part of it. So in keeping with the rules (which I had to look up – I’m new to this sort of thing!), I’m going to answer the questions that Jules has posed to her nominees to get to know them a little bit better.
Do you sleep with the door open or closed?
Closed. Always closed. Otherwise the monsters that lurk outside my bedroom door will get me! That, and I’m a very light sleeper so any light or noise will immediately wake me up.
Make a confession of your choice.
I seriously contemplated eating duck last night. This would have been an ok thought and I probably would have acted on it, if I wasn’t a vegetarian.
What would your last meal on earth be?
Honestly, probably a huge bowl of mango and pineapple! If sex was a fruit…..
What is your ringtone for phone calls?
The very boring, standard and default ringtone for all iPhones.
If you were an animal, what would you be?
I’d be a white eagle. Strong, beautiful, majestic and powerful, with the freedom of flight. I can only just imagine what it would feel like to soar through the air. I’d be Queen of the Sky.
What is your favourite Pop/Soft drink/Soda/bubbly drink?
We call these FIZZY drinks! Years ago, I used to go through about 1.5litres of diet coke a day. I now rarely drink anything sugary, I won’t even drink juice if I haven’t made it fresh myself. For the last couple of years, my go to fizzy beverage of choice is sparkling water. Or tonic with my gin 😛
If you had $20 to spend at the dollarstore, what would you get?
I’m going to look at this one from an Irish perspective. If I had €20 to spend in the 2Euro-Store, I’d probably get a load of pretty stationary as a girl can never have too many notebooks, pens, post-its or sharpies. I’d pick up a couple of plastic champagne glasses, because they always come in handy and provide lots of entertainment when you discover they glow in the dark! Finally, anything extremely tacky that reminds me of a friend will be put into my basket, because let’s face it, presents are always appreciated and it’s the thought that counts.
How do you eat your Oreos?
Twist. Lick. Dunk…in tea!
Why did you start blogging?
The reason I started blogging was to keep my family and friends updated on my life when I lived in Paris, and subsequently, in the Netherlands. Basically, I was too lazy to keep in touch with everyone individually (I love you really guys!), so I decided to keep everyone in the loop this way. It quickly turned into a way to document my life abroad in a fun and creative way. It was quite a daunting experience posting those first few blogs and wondering if anyone would actually read them, and I still get nervous before I publish a post. But the feedback has been amazing. It’s the anticipation and unwavering urge to write them that I love. Once that goes, so will the blog!
Name 3 things within arm’s length of you.
(1) My beloved Tangle Teezer – a girl’s best friend for her hair!
(2) My Dutch homework – ik heb, jij hebt, hij heeft…
(3) The bag that my Indian food came in that has unofficially named the street that my friend lives on after me!
I nominate the following lovelies for a Liebster Award.
Laura – A true Irish cailín, Laura writes about all things beauty, fashion and fitness, and is a breath of fresh air for us Irish girls. Don’t get me wrong, I love my UK and American beauty bloggers, but it’s great seeing prices in EURO and knowing that you can get a product in your local Boots or Sam McCauleys!
Erin – A new favourite of mine, and you’ll soon see why. Erin is on exchange in the Netherlands and is discovering the gems of that Holland has to offer for the first time. I feel like I am transported back to the country that stole my heart each time she posts. Seeing things through her eyes is a real treat, I feel like I am experiencing it all for the first time.
Carly – This girl is an inspiration, and one of my best friends. She’s currently living it up in the Caribbean, loves exploring the outdoors, anything water related and rum! I only wish she updated more!
Jules – My favourite Canadian who shares my love of Philipa Gregory books and all things Royal Court and ‘Old’ England. Although, I could definitely see us being ladies of Big Houses circa the 19th Century!
Shereen – I wish I had this girl’s life. She lives in eternally sunny Spain (at least it appears eternally sunny from her pictures) and is always doing something exciting. Last week she was in London, the week before that it was Malaga… I can barely find the time to visit my mum who lives an hour away!
Atsumi – For anyone who likes to eat clean, or who wants to brush up on their healthy eating knowledge, you need to read Atsumi’s blog. It’s informative and will really motivate you to start eating your way to a clean, lean, raw and healthier new you!
And now for the ten questions that I’d like you to answer 🙂
1) If you could be anywhere right this moment, where would it be?
2) What was your first job?
3) Tell us about a weird talent or habit you have.
4) Do you rather text or call?
5) What is your number one challenge or goal for 2014?
6) What is your favourite fruit?
7) Have you ever broken a bone?
8) How many tweets/instagrams have you posted?
9) Who is your favourite Disney character?
10) What is your favourite blog post you have ever written?
Thanks again Jules for nominating me. I feel super special and loved now. What a lovely way to start the week!
Until the next time,
