Inspiration and motivation was lacking today in every possible aspect of my life. A positive morning meeting with my thesis supervisor lulled me into a extreme false sense of security. My intentions to head to the library turned into accidentally-on-purpose missing the turn and finding myself in Starbucks for an hour. When I eventually arrived, I tried to ease myself into study mode by watching a couple of YouTube videos. Two hours later I realised that I hadn’t even opened my thesis document yet. If I couldn’t find the motivation to concentrate on the one piece of academic work that will make or break my final degree, what hope had I to find inspiration to write my 20th daily blog post! I opened the huge word document. Finally a step in the right direction! Starting is the hardest part right?! So hard, in fact, that I decided to play Candy Crush on the iPad as a reward! Once I ran out of lives I needed another way to strategically avoid work, so I scrolled through a couple of messages that I had yet to reply to. I stumbled across one sent on Sunday from one of my best friends Carly.
Carly is currently living in the Caribbean. One of my favourite things to do is scroll through all the photos on her blog. I’ve always admired her great eye for photography. I don’t know how she does it, but she consistently manages to take the most striking pictures. They always have a piece of her in them. It’s as if I am seeing exactly what she is seeing and how she feels when she sees it! I’m currently lusting over a gorgeous sunset that was taken from a catamaran in the middle of the sea… stunning!! Anyway, last weekend, she saw something that reminded her of me.
This is a frangipani flower and if you haven’t smelt one before, they smell like heaven. In case you haven’t heard, I am obsessed with Elemis Frangipani Monoi Oil. You know how everyone is raving about coconut oil at the moment? Well, frangipani oil is my coconut oil! Even though they both have pretty much the same benefits (and are both solid at room temperature), frangipani oil smells soooo much better. It is just heavenly and I use it for absolutely everything. I treat my hair and nails with it. I use it to remove my eye makeup. I put a few drops into my moisturiser and shampoo. I freaking love the stuff. I use it every day which is probably a bit excessive but the heart wants what the heart wants…! I went through a stage of seriously considering going back brunette because the blonde had dried out my already naturally dry hair but thanks to frangipani oil, the ends of my hair have been transformed back to their former glory. And did I mention is smells amazing?! The only downside that I can think of is that I can’t put it on my toast or in a smoothie.. Coconut oil wins that point!
Well Day 20 seemed to turn into a mini review! When inspiration hits eh?! Let’s hope it hits again tomorrow. I will go straight to the library in the morning. I will not miss my turn and end up in Starbucks. I do not need a fancy festive coffee to help me concentrate. I will not get distracted by YouTube videos. I won’t get frustrated by Candy Crush because I will leave my iPad at home tomorrow. I will. I swear.
