Never fear…Day 6 blog is here! It’s just a little later than usual. That is because I have been living in the moment. My task: write and get this blog up in 15 minutes or else I will have failed at NaBloPoMo! I have no time to waste… let’s do this!
I had my first ‘festive’ Starbucks coffee of the season this morning. I lived on Toffee Nut Lattes last Christmas, and this year it shall be no different! While I was slightly irked that I did not get it in a red cup like everyone else (save the trees and all that jazz!), I did get a free sample of an Orange Mocha – one of Starbucks’ new festive coffees. It tastes like Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Divine, but I’ll stick to my Christmas Blend Americano’s for my instant caffeine fix in the morning.
The highlight of my day was climbing the 465 steps of the Dom Tower with Morgane. You may remember seeing a picture of the Dom Tower at night from a previous blog. It is the tallest tower in the Netherlands standing at 368 feet in height.
There are 50 bells in the Dom Tower weighing 32,000kg in total. Half way up there are 14 bells, one of which I got to ring. And by ring, I mean I was spontaneously handed a hammer and told to ‘hit it with all of your girl power!‘ Gotta love the Dutch directness! Meet Mariah, the bell I beat up. She sounded amazing, and before anyone asks, yes I could reach perfectly fine thank you!!
The tour took over an hour – but there were some beautiful sights to see on our walk up. For instance, this beautiful chandelier in one of the banquet rooms that people can actually rent for parties/weddings (the hospitality/event nerd in me liked this fact!!)
And the view from 30 feet above it was pretty impressive too.
And this beautiful stained glass window… I’m a sucker for architecture and pretty things!
But the most impressive part of all were the views from the top!!
2 minutes before midnight here in the Netherlands. NaBloPoMo Day 6 complete!!
